Lee Jones
Artists Statement

Lee grew up in the lush countryside of Michigan, on a farm, during the Depression.
She learned to fix what was broken, make something new out of something old. One of the original
"green" advocates, she has an unerring eye for items that can be salvaged. A Coloradoan for
some 40 years, with a brief hiatus in Hawaii, Lee is a lifelong collector, and crafter.
She considers herself more of a "junker/crafter" than an artist. She brought home a milk glass
miniature lamp, her first "find" at the age of 10,
from a trash heap, and was scolded by her
mother for bringing home junk. Lee still has the lamp, and her mom and dad eventually had a
collection of more than 50 lamps.

She particularly enjoys creating decorative pieces using found items, such as birdhouses, barnwood
plant stands, lamps from odd items, woodburned "copied cat" plaques which she paints, barbed wire
wreaths with handcut and painted wooden decor, tissue dispenser boxes that look like adobe houses,
canes and walking sticks.

One of her most ambitious projects was building a doll house from scratch out of old wood, and
creating most of the furniture for it. She also restores old furniture; loves southwest stuff
mixed with antiques; hates to sit still; hikes, bowls and golfs with partner Pat.
